What to pack for the hosptial

Preparing for the arrival of your little one is an exciting and important step. Packing a well-thought-out hospital bag can ensure a smoother experience when having a baby. To help you get ready, Sinai Health has created a comprehensive hospital bag checklist.

What to Bring for Mom:

  • Essential Documents: Ontario Health Card and a copy of your birthing plan.
  • Comfort Items: Your favorite pillow (with a colorful case), a breastfeeding pillow, and any labor support items like massage oil, tools, or a focal point object.
  • Snacks & Drinks: Easy-to-digest snacks, electrolyte drinks, and a soft-sided cooler.
  • Clothing: Comfortable nightgowns, bathrobe, nursing bras, and loose-fitting clothes for going home.
  • Toiletries: Lip balm, shampoo, toothbrush, and other essentials.
  • Extras: Phone charger, pen, notebook, and small comforts like a handheld fan or bath mat.

For Your Partner:

  • Credit card, snacks, change of clothes, and a phone charger.
  • Camera or smartphone to capture those first special moments.

For Baby:

  • Newborn diapers, wipes, a cotton hat, sleepers, onesies, and a car seat (CSA-certified and ready in the car for discharge).
